These very large drawings (8’ x 3’) were inspired by a love of Chinese scroll paintings. I used these drawings as a way of extending the theme of my children and the everyday, but also exploring the floating quality and use of the white space to intensify the images. This poetic use of space – of placing several figures in their own islands of space and time – has continued into the Swimming Paintings.
